Valentine’s Day Tsunami Project

May, 2004

THANKS EVERYONE FOR PARTICIPATING IN THIS PROJECT !
Earlier this year, we asked children in schools across America to make Valentine's Day cards for children in Southern Thailand who were affected by the tsunami. We want to let you know how much we appreciate all of the classroom participation in our Valentine’s Day Tsunami Victims Project. Thanks to you, this has been a phenomenal success. We received literally thousands of Valentines from all across the country, and from countries as far away as Japan. We are overwhelmed with gratitude and happiness at this amazing response!

THE MISSION :
This is the location of our delivery in Phang-Nga Province, southern Thailand. The photos at the right are from our trip to the Pakweep School in the town of Khuk Khak on Feb. 16.

Phang-Nga was hit especially hard by the tsunami, but has not received the media attention of the more well-known tourist destination, Phuket. Most of the population of Khuk Khak is dependent on the sea for their income, and the tsunami has been particularly damaging to them.

Reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts are currently underway in Phang-Nga, mainly organized by the Mirror Foundation. For more information about how you can help or to volunteer, contact them via their website.
